Programme Synopsis

The SMU FICS Training: Product Control - Product Accounting & Tax Considerations (VI) aims to provide participants with the essential knowledge in critical issues in product accounting including tax considerations.

The curriculum covers convergence of international accounting standards and its impact on reporting of financial instruments, mark-to-market valuation methodologies, as well as control procedures to MIS system used for management reporting. It also looks at tax climate and tax issues related to cross-border transactions, as well as impact of transfer pricing on financial markets business units.

 

Unique features

Case studies and discussions are used to provide participants with hands-on experience in the job function, which serves to reinforce the technical knowledge and application of competency skills.

The trainers are veteran banking professionals with experience across various functions (operations, risk management, financial and management accounting, tax, systems etc) in global market middle to back office operations.

Scope of Accreditation
The programme is accredited under Job Role VI. A person in this role would have the following job responsibilities:

• Responsible for setting the strategic direction for the product control department, aligning the department objectives with overall corporate goals, managing the day-to-day operations and managing sales staff.
• Has tactical responsibility for the product control department and administers and manages adherence to the product control department budget.
• Possesses a significant degree of personal accountability, decision-making authority and risk management skills.
• Operates in an environment which is largely non-routine, unpredictable and complex.

Who should attend?

Financial accounts, management accountants, product controllers, IT application support, auditors, compliance and internal control officers. Minimum of bachelor’s degree required, preferably with at least 5 years experience in financial markets product control.
